What is SCIO?
SCIO (Student-Centered Insights & Outcomes) is an AI-powered adaptive learning platform designed for higher education science courses. It generates assessments, provides instant feedback, and adjusts question difficulty in real time based on each student’s performance.
Why we built it
Traditional assessments are static. Every student gets the same questions regardless of their understanding. Instructors spend hours writing and grading questions that may not even target the right level for each learner.
SCIO changes that by:
- Adapting in real time — question difficulty shifts based on running accuracy
- Generating from your materials — upload lecture notes and get draft assessment questions
- Respecting privacy — no student PII is ever sent to AI services
- Supporting multiple question types — multiple choice, numerical with sig-fig evaluation, and AI-graded short answer
Privacy-first AI
We take student privacy seriously. SCIO sends only answer text and question context to AI — never names, emails, or identifiers. We comply with Quebec AI ethics guidelines including transparency notices, explicit consent, and the right to request manual review.
